Mark Zuckerberg Built a Personal Robot Butler to Control His Home Like Iron Man

It only took Zuckerberg 100 hours to build.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has built a personal robot butler for his home — called Jarvis. Obviously inspired by Iron Man’s Tony Stark, the digital butler only took Zuckerberg 100 hours to build. Zuckerberg then posted his thoughts and comments on the process and how Jarvis works. Using a custom Facebook Messenger bot he built or a custom voice recognition app, multiple iPhones are placed around Zuckerberg’s home which can listen to commands that can help change the music, control the lights or make him toast.
Zuckerberg mentioned that the hardest part of the process was connecting each product which had a different code structure. He also noted that communicating through text is of utmost importance, saying, “In order to be useful I wanted to be able to communicate with [Jarvis] from anywhere I happened to be. That meant the communication had to happen through my phone, not a device placed in my home.”
“Over time it would be interesting to find ways to make this available to the world,” Zuckerberg wrote. “I considered open sourcing my code, but it’s currently too tightly tied to my own home, appliances and network configuration. If I ever build a layer that abstracts more home automation functionality, I may release that. Or, of course, that could be a great foundation to build a new product.” See the full post on Facebook here.
