Not a lot of people can say they’ve worked one job their entire life, but Gian Luigi Carminati can. The 76-year-old has spent his entire life becoming an expert technician at camera repair. He has seen the camera trend evolve full circle from 35mm to digital and slowly back to analog. In this two-minute video appropriately titled ‘Master of Camera,’ the passionate and proud artist gives a glimpse into daily life in his small and humble Milan workshop where he treats every camera with love and repairs them with just a set of screwdrivers.
Few people who aren’t photographers can describe the golden age of analog film cameras the way Carminati does: “Analog is always fascinating because we all want the surprise. True photography is black and white.” His love for photography and dedication to his craft is truly inspirational.
