The Apple iPhone's Next Iteration May Feature Superior Water Protection

The next iPhone to release — as some speculate may be known as the iPhone 8 — is reported to consider a heightened ingress protection (IP) rating for even better water and dust protection.
Currently the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have IP67 ranks, which allows the phone to survive submersion in 1-meter depth water levels for up to 30 minutes; the iPhone 8 is speculated to receive an IP68 rating that will allow for the same 30 minute interval but with up to 1.5 meters of water. An upgrade of this nature would be interesting, as Apple has been known to carry over functional upgrades across multiple models and years — moving from IP67 to IP68 within a year would certainly appease late adopters.
Restrictions apply however, in that the iPhone’s warranty currently does not support water damage coverage, and the phone’s resistance abilities change should its user drop the phone into other liquids that are acidic or corrosive like carbonated drinks, alcohol, etc. Further, the Samsung Galaxy S7 already utilizes IP68 water and dust protection as standard.
The iPhone 8, following tradition, should be announced some time near September 2017.
