Nokia Is Back ( Returning To The Smartphone Market With New Android Phones )

Nokia was a name who ruled the mobile world before the iPhone and the Android era. With the increasing popularity of Android and iPhone, sales of Nokia phones have begun to decline. Eventually, the mobile phone division of Nokia was bought by Microsoft in order to make Nokia devices running Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system to compete with popular flagship Android and iOS. However, this acquisition was also not able to save the company. Finally, after disappointing sales of Windows Phone devices based on Nokia, the company decided to stop making Nokia smart phones altogether.

Recently, rumors have begun to emerge that Nokia will soon enter the smart phone market. The specialty of this re entry is that, this time Nokia comes back with Android OS instead of Windows phone OS. Nokia has officially confirmed that they will actually return into the smart phone market in 2017. Although the Nokia brand will be back, the company itself will not absolutely be manufacturing this device, they will be produced by a new company called HMD, Which will manufacture devices using Nokia-owned patents, and mark them as Nokia devices through a licensing agreement.

Android is by far the most widely used mobile operating system in the world and could function as a ship to encourage consumers to use Microsoft applications and services. Because Android allows developers to customize it as they see fit, Nokia devices based on Android would likely be integrated with Microsoft's products such as Cortana, Skype and OneDrive. This will ideally increase users' dependency on Microsoft's services, making them more invested in their ecosystem.

While the company announced that they would again start releasing Nokia brand smart phones next year, details of the specifications and features of the devices remain scarce.
