Facebook to Make Its Comments Section Look Like Messenger

Be ready for Messenger-style bubbles.

Facebook continues to force its Messenger platform on its users, now with its most overt act of coercion to date. The social network is testing out text bubbles that look like Messenger conversations in the comments section of its mobile app. While only some accounts have this update so far, the new UI gets rid of the rectangular format we’ve all become accustomed to. In the screenshots below, it also looks as if Facebook is experimenting with either placing the user’s name on top of the bubble, or within.
Why the change? Well Facebook is likely trying to encourage users to increase sharing and engagement. If each comment thread looks like a conversation, then users are more likely to reply, resulting in more time spent on Facebook. According to a rep at the company, “We are always working to make Facebook a more visual and engaging place to have conversations. So we’re testing multiple design updates in News Feed, including a more conversational way to comment on posts.”
In other Facebook news, the company is rumored to be unveiling hardware very soon.
